The previous week has not been quite what I hoped it would be. I was looking to finish April in a good position and also get an excellent start on May. But the result is just behind last week.

For the first time in a few weeks though, the last word count for the week is not all that it seems. The total is low, but it does not include some writing which will be published in the next week. So maybe it is not as bad as expected.

Goal Progress

My writing log this week covers the week beginning 27 April 2020 and concluding on 3 May 2020. In this time I completed 2,970 words and published four articles.

I have written 30,713 words towards my 1 million word goal and published 43 articles.

The above result means that I need to aim a little higher each week now for 28,037 words per week or 4,005 per day. While for my publishing goal, my target is still similar at just over 14.5 articles per week or 2 per day there is some rounding involved here.

Thoughts For The Week

Over the past week I have dropped back a little from the previous week, by about 300 words. However, as mentioned above, I have some writing that is not complete to publish in the next week. At an estimate this has been around 1,800 words. While still not big numbers every bit helps.

I published two stories to the Medium platform this week. Both were average performers on topics that would have a somewhat niche audience.

The first was a health-related article that looked at why I measure my temperate every morning. The result was 11 views and 9 reads.

The second was a technology-related article. Covering the reason I removed the contact form from my websites. The results were 12 views and 8 reads. I tried something different on this one using a graphic I made instead of stock photography. However, do not think this made any impact on the views.

At some point, as I publish more, I won’t be including every article I publish in this section. However, will at least continue to share the best performers. I like to show what is working.

Changes I Made

Although, I had planned to make some changes in my last Writers Log, nothing eventuated. The key change I wanted to make was daily brainstorming. Maybe because I did not schedule it or maybe for some other reason I just never made the time.

I have also made no change to how I track my word count. I know there are words that could be counted that are slipping through. One idea that I am looking at is how to repurpose the comments I write. I thought if I take the comment and rework it a little I may publish it as a stand-alone piece of content. The greatest challenge with this is making the time to pull those comments out and work on them.

Reduce The Number Of Drafts

One important aspect of writing that I would like to work on in the next few weeks is reducing the number of drafts I have.

In the past week this number has only increased by three. But in the weeks prior to this, it was over 10 new drafts per week. I do not mind adding new drafts for new story ideas. However, at some point these need to be actioned. I need to write those stories and get them published.

As at the 1st of May, I have 103 drafts. I know that throughout the month I will probably add new story ideas. So by the end of May I would like to have this number below 100 drafts.

Keep On Writing

I hope that you enjoyed this update and your writing is also progressing towards your goals.
